Beyond the Happily Ever After: Youth of Five Nations Rewrite the Rules of Fairy Tales in Seville!

On the third and most transformative day of the "We Want Equal Tales!" Erasmus+ KA152 Youth Exchange project, young change-makers took up their pens to radically disrupt centuries-old narratives. The day focused on shattering the toxic imagery of passive, helpless women awaiting rescue and the overburdened, emotionally suppressed "strong men" that traditionally dominate children's literature.

Jointly run by a powerful international coalition—including host Asociación LEGO (Spain), Vezirköprü Cumhuriyet Ortaokulu (Turkey), Changemakers SZE (Hungary), Youth Voice (Ukraine), and Grupul Tomorrow Hub (Romania)—the day successfully completed an intensive fairy tale deconstruction and creative reproduction process. 📚

The morning kicked off with a critical workshop where participants analyzed the subconscious psychological programming embedded in classic folklore. From Cinderella's forced domestic compliance to Rapunzel's isolation, the youth mapped out how these narratives dictate modern gender biases. Armed with these insights, the teams broke into international workshops to completely reshape these stories into a groundbreaking "Anti-Masal (New Non-Fairy Tale)" format strictly aligned with equity, diversity, and mutual respect.

In this bold new literary universe, Little Red Riding Hood is no longer a naive, helpless victim walking blindly into danger. Instead, she was transformed into a highly perceptive, sharp-witted protagonist who instantly reads the wolf's true intentions. Relying on her own rational intelligence and strategic thinking, she successfully outsmarts the threat to protect both herself and her grandmother—completely eliminating the need for a heroic huntsman to save the day!

Thanks to the generous contribution of local costume sponsors, these innovative, empowering scripts didn't just stay on paper. The international participants brought the characters to life, staging an incredibly vibrant, interactive theatre performance at a local elementary school.

The young students and teachers in the audience were mesmerized. Following the final curtain call, the youth hosted an emotional and eye-opening Q&A session with the children. Through friendly dialogue and shared laughter, a vital seed was planted in the minds of the next generation: that being strong, vulnerable, brave, or cautious is entirely a matter of individual human traits and personal character—never defined by one's gender. ⚧️
