We Want Equal Tales!: A Red-Haired Princess Breaks Gender Stereotypes

The second day of the "We Want Equal Tales!" Erasmus+ KA152 Youth Exchange project continued with inspiring learning experiences in Seville, Spain. Held between 1–7 October 2025 under the coordination of Asociación LEGO and implemented within the framework of Project No. 2025-1-ES02-KA152-YOU-000297374.

The main theme of the day focused on hidden messages in cinema and literature. Participants began with a training session titled "Gender Roles in Fairy Tales," where they explored how classic fairy tales shape children's perceptions of gender and influence their subconscious understanding of social roles. Through interactive discussions, the group reflected on the importance of creating more inclusive and empowering stories for future generations.

The most striking activity of the day was the screening of the animated film "Brave," a story that challenges the traditional princess narrative. Following the screening, which was attended by local community members, participants worked in international groups to conduct an in-depth "Brave Analysis." Using the character of Princess Merida as an example of independence and self-determination, they discussed how fairy tales can either reinforce or break gender stereotypes and how storytelling can become a powerful tool for promoting equality.

The day concluded with a vibrant Turkish and Romanian Cultural Night, where participants introduced their traditional dances, customs, myths, and cultural heritage. The evening strengthened intercultural dialogue, encouraged mutual understanding, and highlighted how cultural diversity can enrich the shared mission of building a more equal and inclusive society.
